For as long as I can remember, I've used creation as a coping skill to help deal with my depression and anxiety. Even as a child, I sketched away my worries. Over the last few years, my teenage son has been struggling with depression and anxiety as well and, wouldn't you know it, sketching and drawing has become his go-to coping skill as well.
While working with my son in getting the help he needs, I ended up volunteering for Crisis Text Line. By day, I was teaching art classes and creating art. By night, I was talking to people of all ages who were dealing with emotional crisis and nearly all of them came up with something creative when we discussed coping skills.
It was then that I realized this space - of art and mental health, of acceptance and creativity, needed to be brought to life.
Wild Creative is an 8 week journey in creating and bringing creation into our lives. Creating isn't just a hobby - it's also healing. In this journey, we explore various methods of creating and what it does for us, inside and out, with the help of 20+ incredible artists and contributors!
There will be art tutorials, interviews, recipes, herb talk, discussions on anxiety and depression, coloring pages and more!
This isn't just an art class - it's a journey in learning not only how to create but what creating can bring into our mind, body, and soul.
